This talk, presented at the 2022 IAWF Fire & Climate Conference, explores how the rediscovery of traditional fire use in Mediterranean agro-pastoral systems can support wildfire prevention and landscape management. Using the case of Sardinia, it highlights how prescribed burning, developed with local communities, helps reduce fuel loads, limit large fires, and improve ecosystem and livestock health. It shows how combining traditional knowledge with science can strengthen IFM.
